Oatmeal to Go
The best way to have oatmeal is hot off the stove. The next best way is to grab an oatmeal cup when you’re in a hurry and need a portable meal or snack. Get creative with fruits and nuts to top the oatmeal with. Hot or cold, these handy oatmeal jars are satisfying and filling.
Occasionally we buy Yoplait brand’s Oui yogurt jars that come in a variety of flavors and are so yummy. Instead of tossing the cute, glass containers, reuse them. They’re a lot easier to peel off the packaging stickers than they once were. With some Goo Gone, all the residue can be rubbed off if it bothers you, as it does me.
I have covered the jars with foil and plastic wrap until recently when I bought plastic lids from their website.
Here’s how to make oatmeal-to-go cups.

- 1 teaspoon salt
- 3 cups old fashioned rolled oats
- 1/4 cup butter
- 2/3 cup brown sugar
- topping suggestions: berries, apples, peaches, pecans, coconut, almonds
